THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE BLACK MIND
BY DUANE LORENZO STEVENSON
Antonio Vieria, Chevalier de St. Georges , or Alexsander Sergeevich Pushkin if you were to asked the typi cal black person(s) about these great men of color their minds would draw a blank as somewhat being spoken foreign language. They would not be able to speak about how these particular black men were icons of their time, and the impact they had on European society. I started this article with this example because I wanted to express the lack of knowledge African- Americans have towards their history (especially our youth) in western civilization.
Who should be held responsible for the absent of knowledge among African – Americans when it comes to the importance of our history Black society or White? This is a valid argument where I feel both classes have taken a part in the destruction of the black mind. On behalf of the society of the whites SLAVERY played a pivotal role in the confusion of the black mind physically and mentally. From the physical aspect the horrendous and brutal whippings our people had to endure, dismemberment of limbs, and castrating of genitals all to instill fear in the mind of the slaves. Mentally, being force not to a foreign land because the Africans of ancient were trading with the Indians way before Columbus so-called discovery of America, but held in captivity and taken from our home land of Africa. Before I go on I must speak to the educated Negros who suggests they are not from Africa or have any lineage to the motherland, which may be true, in some essence. Since we are the original inhabitants of this planet called Earth we were the first to migrate to different regions of the world, so you may not be from Africa but your history begins in Africa. Revoked of our heritage and culture force to adapt a religion that kept us in bondage for over 400 years. Quick fact, if you were to do your research you would find that Christianity the religion that nearly all Americans adhere to is really a by – product of the African religious system. For example, The Christian Trinity of the Father, Son, Holy Ghost originated from the African Trinity of Ausar, Aset, and Heru (Osiris, Isis, and Horus), which existed for more than 4,000 years before the latter. Christianity was just a fancy name created by Constantine to replace the African mystery system. The history of our people was re-written which placed African –American at the bottom taught to believe that we were savages and contribute anything of substance to civilization, but history has a way of bringing the truth to light. For those of you who are not verse in Ancient African history you may be shocked or even offended with what I’m about to tell you. Civilization began in Africa!!! It has been proven and yet ignored. The Western educational system of past and present undoubtly has been a major corporate in the corruption of African history. From the time you started school until completion you were program consciously and subconsciously to feel inferior to other races of the world, but in actuality all great civilizations owe their debt to Africa. The first civilization known to mankind was the country Kemet or Egypt which was inhabited by the Ethiopians that travel from the south of the Nile River upward. This illustrious civilization was the blueprint that ignited the development of Greece and Rome. The Greeks were the first of the European family to encounter the Egyptians. These uncivilized people were filled with bewilderment at the advance development of this country especially the pyramids, which was the equivalent to the skyscrapers of today. The Egyptians took the Greeks under their wings and taught them how to read, write, and cultivate the land. Many of Greece greatest scholars ( Socrates, Homer, and Herodotus ) spent years in Egypt learning from the Egyptians Priest in that time it was a great honor to go to Egypt and learn. Art, Literature, Religion, Mathematic s, Astronomy, and agriculture were introduced to the Greeks by the people of Africa not the other way around. Now I posed to you the question how come this certain bit of information has not been presented in today’s public schools? Is it that the scholars that put in place the yearly curriculum omit this knowledge because they feel it’s not influential? Or do they fear that savage slave will develop a sense of pride about themselves, and the same old story of our history beginning as slaves would no longer hold any volume.
African- Americans are very complicated people we tend to forgive and forget very easily, reject our great scholars for the substitute of others, and live by the moral crabs in the bucket. There are two responses that I am accustom to receiving when talking among friends and family about the state of the black mind. Slavery is over why must you dwelt on the past and why do you spend so much time reading and talking about past events. It’s impracticable to forget or even deny our past shortcomings or greatness. If you asked the Jews about the holocaust they would not shy away from the topic or their falsified biblical history. But when the concern African American brings up of the topic of slavery or the history of ancient Africa the so called educated Negros and whites get affronted as if it’s some sort of taboo, or better yet need THEIR (whites) permission to discuss the subject. As I stated before they only teach you what they want you to know concerning our history in the educational system. Even though, we as African Americans have achieved surmountable greatness in America from the time of slavery we must still keep in mind that we were great before America was a country. Devastating as this may sound we are our own worst enemy trapped in the matrix refusing to accept the truth not realizing our true identity, but passing this delusion on to our progenies for them to continue a generational legion of black zombies. My beloved black people we have a history of neglecting our great black scholars who have tried to liberate our minds. Such as Joel A. Rogers, John Henrik Clarke, Ivan Van Sertima, Louis Farrakhan, Marcus Garvey, and the list goes on. So many times we have put these innovators on trail shaming their names, because of our own insecurities not knowing the treasures they were willing to share with us until it’s too late. Money over knowledge is the new way of thinking for the African American not saying acquiring money is wrong because we all need to survive and want to live comfortable, but I’m saying when you think acquiring materialist wealth defines your greatness than that’s a problem. The ancient Africans believed that knowledge of self was the greatness wealth One could obtained in his lifetime. The philosophy of know thy self was not coined by Socrates in facts it’s of African Proverbs Man know Thy Self.
In conclusion, I urged my African American people to put aside differences and open your eyes to what’s going on around you. Young black men are still lost waiting for an answer to their purpose for living, but death and jail awaits them with open arms, young black women are force to fend for themselves causing a love/hate relationship between the two genders, the older generation feels they owe nothing to the younger generation and the latter feels they have nothing to learn from the other, we are still in bondage to this mental disease called religion fearing to step outside the box and learn the truth about Christianity, but I feel that there’s a new of breed of scholars ( Phil Valentine and Bobby Hemmit) that are picking up where the previous left off. Knowledge of our history is very important when it comes to saving our people from mental genocide you will never know where you are going until you know where you come from.
